Preparing For Your Training
Most people would want to finish their training and acquire their licence in the shortest possible time. As such, it is vital to conduct some online research on basic motorcycle riding. For instance, you could learn how to turn on the motorcycle, change gears and operate the various controls.
Motorcycle training is conducted by accredited training providers. Check internet reviews or seek referrals from friends to identify a skilled, experienced and friendly trainer. You will have to pay a small fee for your training.
Motorcycle Training
Motorcycle training courses, also known as Q-Ride courses, are divided into three parts:
Q-Ride Pre-Learner Course (2 Days)
This course is designed for people who do not have any motorcycle riding experience. You will learn about motorcycle safety gear and how to operate the braking and transmission mechanism. Besides, your trainer will teach you how to use the indicators, side mirrors and lights.
Q-Ride Restricted (RE) Course (1 day)
The course will reinforce your motorcycle riding skills. Now that you know how to operate the bike, your trainer will show you how to tackle curves and ride under low speeds. It aims to build your confidence when riding the bike.
Q-Ride Unrestricted (R) Course (Less Than One Day)
It aims to give the student sufficient road experience. The trainer will educate you on road etiquette and how to ensure the safety of other road users when on the bike. He or she will also teach you how to handle difficult road conditions such as traffic jams, disrespectful motorists and heavy rains. Further, you will learn some defensive riding skills to avoid accidents on the road.
Additional Tips
After the RE course, your trainer will provide you with a certificate that allows you to take an online competency test. You will acquire a RE learner licence once you pass the test.
You are free to enrol in the RE course once you have held the RE learner licence for three months. After this, you can apply for a RE provisional licence.
To qualify for the R course, you must have held the RE provisional licence for a minimum of two years. After this, you can apply for an R licence.
Remember, safety comes first. Always observe road rules and respect other road users as you ride your bike.
